CIRCLE DANCE
HOLIDAY AT ANILIO, PILION, GREECE, FRIDAY 4 - 11
SEPTEMBER 2009. This was good! Looking at
running this, or something similar, again in a future
year.... though maybe not in Greece.....Venue
suggestions welcome! A week to both relax and dance,
sharing circle dance together in a beautiful, peaceful
environment, but with plenty of time to enjoy the beach,
and mountain walks. Some dance experience needed. This
event ran for the first time in Sept. 2007 at the Pilion
Centre, to which we returned in 2009, but now under the
auspices of the Kalikalos Centre. See separate Pilion page on this site for
more details. Some photos from the 2009 event can be
found online at
Flickr.com.

SATURDAY JUNE 8,
11.00 a.m. - 4.45 p.m., SHEFFIELD. Day of
dance - Romanian and Greek, with Paul Boizot.
Dances mainly from Society for International Folk
Dancing Summer Schools 2004 (Dimitris
Triandafyllidis) & 2006 (Silviu Ciucumis) – list
below. I hope to attract both folk and circle dancers to
this event. Some experience of one of those, or similar,
is needed.
I intend to run this day somewhere in between a typical
SIFD workshop and a circle dance day. I will not be
using a centre, or doing any attunements, etc. But we
may do more dances than at a typical SIFD workshop. I
will aim to repeat the most tricky dances enough times
for people to learn them, but will also include some
simpler dances which we may not repeat, or may only
repeat once. I do not intend to video the dances, or to
have CD and notes for sale at the event - but I can
provide notes for some dances, and mp3 music, online
after the event if required, and can make a CD if there
is enough demand. Some of this partly depends on who
turns up!
Possible dances for the day - I am open to requests to
include any of these in particular;
Summer School 2004, Greek, learned from Dimitris Triandafyllidis;
Syrtos Baniotikos
Zervodexos
Tik
Mazemenos (Hassaposervico)
Siganos (with or without variations)
Summer School 2006, Romanian, learned from Silviu
Ciucumis;
Zdroboleanca
Iedera
Sirba Popilor
Hora De Mina
I expect some of the above to form the bulk of the day,
but other possibilities (not from the Summer Schools)
include -
Trandafirul
Joc De Ulita
Drumul Dracului (modern Hungarian version)
Hora Mare Bukovineana (there are lots of these - this one
is from Silviu Ciucumis via Marina Wostenholme)
Hora Dobrogeana
Vasilarhontissa
