DANCE DAYS IN SHEFFIELD
led by Paul. Most recent first.
SATURDAY NOVEMBER 25, 2006, 11 a.m. - 4.45 p.m. Gypsy Plus. A day of traditional
dances with the emphasis on Rom (Gypsy) dances from the Balkans. Some experience
of Circle, World, or International Folk dance is preferable.
SATURDAY JULY 1, 2006,11 a.m. - 4.45 p.m., Water Wheel. A day of Circle Dance around
the theme of water. Open to all with some experience of Circle, World,
or International Folk dance, and to beginners who do other forms of
dance and are reasonably quick to pick up new steps.
SATURDAY FEBRUARY 18, 2006, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., The Modern Dance. Day of modern Circle
Dance choreographies, including dances by Bob Minney, Paul Boizot, Cindy
Kelly, Adrian Pointon and others. Music from a variety of sources, including Celtic,
South American, Bob Minney, modern, even Bulgarian - there will be some
traditional music even if the dances are not traditional! There will be
a few seasonal dances and some slower meditational dances, but these
will only be part of a day of variety. Probably fewer tricky dances so
this day is also suitable for newer or less confident dancers - if you
have never done a whole day event before this could be a good first one
to go to! Cost
£8 - £22 (self-select).
SATURDAY NOVEMBER 26, 2005, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., Balkan Dance Day. Rom (Gypsy), Macedonia, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Serbia, etc. Some experience of Circle Dance or International Folk dance needed - expect to dance in irregular rhythms! Cost
£8 - £22 (self-select).
SATURDAY JUNE 11, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Greek Dance Day. Will include some of the
dances taught by Dimitris Triandafyllidis at the 2004 SIFD (Society for
International Folk Dance) Summer School. Some experience of Circle Dance or International Folk dance needed. Cost
£8 - £22 (self-select).
SATURDAY APRIL 9, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Day of Circle Dance - traditional and modern dances, lively ones, meditative ones. A general day with a selection of favourite dances new and old. Cost £8 - £22 (self-select).
SATURDAY FEBRUARY 19, 2005, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., Longer Dances. A day of
Circle Dance using longer or extended recordings - a chance to get immersed in the dances, and experience the various mental, emotional, physical and spiritual states that come with repeated movement over a longer period.. I am not planning to do any 45-minute marathons. Some dances will be quite long, e.g. 6 to 8 minutes, maybe one or two even longer; and some will be medium-length versions of what were originally short recordings. I may include some not-so-long recordings for more energetic dances! Cost
£8 - £22 (self-select).
SATURDAY SEPT. 11 2004, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Dancing
With The Whole Body - a day of Circle Dance with attention to posture.
Circle Dance is noted for its spiritual or meditational aspects, but it can also help the body greatly. You can use it to detect where muscular tensions lie, and to improve balance and co-ordination. This can have health benefits in daily life, and in turn help you to dance better. We will do a variety of dances, and talk a little about how we use our bodies in some of them. We may look at; relaxing the muscles to avoid aches - the upright posture - how your balance feels when dancing with eyes closed - dancing with the whole body, not just the feet (dance style!) - using less energy in faster dances.
And more. Cost £7 - £20 (self-select).
SATURDAY NOV. 6 2004, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., the annual Balkan Dance Day. Macedonia, Romania, Bulgaria, Rom (Gypsy),
Albania, Serbia, etc. Some experience of Circle Dance or International Folk dance needed - expect to dance in irregular rhythms! Cost £7 - £20 (self-select).

Kolo. Cost £15 - £25 (self-select); £2 discount for bookings by
16
April. Deposit £10. You can listen to some Mp3 sound
files of Cosmo Kolo.
