PAUL BOIZOT - CIRCLE DANCE AND MUSIC

MP3 SOUND SAMPLES

SOUND FILES - HOW TO PLAY THE MUSIC FILES -
OTHER DANCE AND MUSIC PAGES - CONTACT

These are extracts, not full tracks. They have been recorded live at Circle Dance events on minidisc, so they are not studio quality. In particular the sound balance is not perfect, and you may hear the sound of dancers' feet, or odd bits of conversation. But they do give the feel of live performance.

I hope to add more of my own mp3's, and would also be interested to discuss being a shop window for musicians without a website. To buy CDs (studio-recorded) by Bob Minney and hear mp3 samples, click here.

Copyright of sound files remains with the performers. You are welcome to download sound files for your personal non-commercial use only.

SOUND FILES

If you want to play the files more than a couple of times, please download them to your hard drive and play from there, otherwise it uses up too much of my bandwidth!

FERNY HILL  2.39 Mb , time 2.37, from an original of 3.32. Mis-titled - see below. Paul Gee plays whistle, I am on bouzouki, John Hofton on flute, and the late Helen Oak adds wordless vocal. Rikki choreographed a dance to a slower version of this by Celtic Tiger, which they call Ferny Hill on their CD. But I think this is a mis-titling on their part. The Chieftains' version of this tune on the CD "The Long Black Veil" is called Dunmore Lassies, while their Ferny Hill is a different tune altogether. I note that these seem to be the only 2 instrumental tracks on the CD!

SHIR AL ETZ 1.18 Mb , time 1.17, from an original of 4.27. NB This extract fades in. Helen and I sing this Israeli song, Paul Gee plays guitar on this one, John Hofton flute, and me bouzouki.

Music from ALNMOUTH, JULY 2003. Recordings from a residential Circle Dance weekend on the Northumberland coast, taught by Sophia Hatch, with all live music, played by Bob Minney (accordion, vocals), Helen Oak (percussion, vocals) and me (flat-backed bouzouki, vocals).

DANCE FROM LEROS  2.63 Mb , time 2.53, length of original 7.32 NB This extract fades in and is from the end of the piece. Adrian Pointon joined us on guitar. Vocals Helen and Bob.

JOVANO, JOVANKE   2.00 Mb, time 2.11,original 4.42. The song is from Macedonia in 7/8 rhythm, again with Adrian on guitar. All three of us sing on this - mine is the louder male voice. This website also has lyrics to a version of this song.

SYRTO  2.21 Mb, time 2.24, original 4.45. A semi-improvised instrumental - i.e. the initial melody is improvised by me on bouzouki, but around a basic tempo, structure and key that I have used before for the dance Syrtos Kritikos - the Syrtos from Crete. (Aka Kritikos or Syrtos Kritikos Chaniatiokos). The inspiration came from music by Loudovikos Ton Anogion, which Laura Shannon has used for this dance.

HOW TO PLAY THE MUSIC FILES

For those new to playing sound files......If you double-click on the links, you should be able either to download the files to keep on your hard drive, or open them and play them from this site. You may be given the option, depending on how your computer is configured. If you have problems, try right-click and you should find various options - "save target as" should enable you to download the file to your hard disc. If you want to play the files more than a couple of times, please download them to your hard drive and play from there, otherwise it uses up too much of my bandwidth!

In order to play the files you need some sort of mp3 or media player. If you download a file and double-click on it, it should play in whatever default player is on your computer. If you have Windows, Microsoft has given you the Windows Media Player (helps stop you going off and bothering to look at other companies' products....). If you want to download a good, fast, free player, I recommend Winamp (search on Google for it).
